TU's competition team won 3 medals from the match and 5 from the movement series
Eddie worked hard for gold in the junior boys' - 73kg category. The atmosphere of relaxed and excellent work was visible all the way to the stands. In the opinion of the final opponent, the performance was so convincing that the match was won by forfeit.
Sedge finished silver in the cadet girls' +59kg series after great matches. The final was fierce and Sara fought well until the end, looking for good points. Sara also won gold in poomsae synchro and bronze in individual. So a lot of medals for Sara!
Alina won her first two matches in the junior girls -59kg series. Alina also played hard in the semi-final against a tough opponent, who eventually won the whole series. So, a bronze for Alina at the end of a wonderful day.
A boat was in a strong mood already in the warm-up area and won his first match with a strong performance in the cadet boys -37kg series. Venne injured his leg in the first match. We had to start the second match feeling a little sore. Venne fought until the end of the match with a cool head, but this time the opponent continued.
Janika lähti ottelunsa ensimmäiseen erään hyvällä draivilla ja voittikin tilanteita kadettityttöjen -47kg sarjassa. Suojauksen herpaantuessa ottelu päättyi kuitenkin tyrmäykseen vastuksen pääosumalla. Janikalle siis kotiinviemisinä arvokkaan kilpailukokemuksen lisäksi ”luomivärit” silmäkulmassa.
Last year's series winner Jenny missed the first round this time, but the lack of attitude and effort can't be blamed at all. Jenny fought until the end and considered the competition an important experience for future competitions.
Aino works hard during the day both in the match and on the poomsek field. On the match flight, a long-haired Ukrainian stood against him, who managed to hit Ainoa hard in the nose, so the match had to be stopped. Despite the knock-out, Aino was still able to do a group performance with a bang. In Poomsse, the result was gold in the individual series and the team series!
Plum also competed in the match and business series. There was no luck in the match flight this time, even though victory in the opening match was not far off. Nevertheless, gold from Poomsae, driven by strong performances!
Severus fought a very even match in the men's 74 kg category, which was only decided in the golden point round in favor of the opponent. Sever's tactics worked well from start to finish and several times the foot was inches away from the opponent's helmet and once it sank nicely. Unfortunately, a few own warnings and the opponent's success in the extra set tilted the match in favor of the German.
Ines missed the first round this time. but the experience bank was credited comfortably. The opponent was fast and skilled, but Iines stayed well involved in the situations.
Sophia was the only TU member on the match mats on Sunday and had to move up a weight class to get opponents. Sofia made some great hits in her match and fought with attitude until the end. On Saturday, Sofia worked hard with Sara and Aino for gold in the cadet girls' group movement series and bronze in the individual.
Part of the business series team was competing in Berlin over the weekend, but the rest went to the HNMKY business series competition organized in Malmi and the results were great again!
Eron the competition fitness hit the button and the result was a win over the jinnuboys series with convincing performances. The scores also indicated a successful day. Eero also won silver in the doubles with Mudo Lohja's Elvi Ollila.
Gold was also hung Alex's and Bella's around the neck, both wearing their own cadet sets. For Vickan silver from cadets and bronze from doubles with Alex.
They competed in the adult individual series Titus and Laura, the latter also in the role of coach. Both succeeded perfectly in their hard-level series. Bronze for Laura in the U40 women and Tiitu a great fourth place in the U30 women. In addition to this, Laura won gold for pairing Vihti with Jeppe Aukio.
Easter can be spent in many ways, and one of the best is of course participating in taekwondo competitions. Sara, Venne, Alina, Chahra and Chaimaa showed their skills in the Sofia Open 2019 G1 competitions and the results speak for themselves.
Sara had a real top day when first the G1 medalist from Serbia and then the reigning champion from Cyprus hit the road. The Ukrainian opponent in the finals had also collected sea rites and we could see a ticklingly even battle. Until the very end, the situation could have turned either way, but in the end, Sara was satisfied with the silver. A great performance by Saralata considering that every opponent was almost a head taller.
Chaimaa played semi-fit after being ill, but still styled an excellent opening win against Greece. The semi-final was also the tightest and a solution was sought all the way to the overtime. Unfortunately, this time the points go to the opponent. Of course, it was left in the tooth, because Chaimaa caught several headers that looked clear, but for one reason or another there were no points. Nicely, however, a bronze medal and the results show that brighter medals are within reach.
Chahra's confident moves continued after the silver at the Belgian Games. In the opening match, Australia fell 13-7. In the semifinals, he faced a tough Serbian, who this time took a longer shot and thus Chahra's ranking was fifth.
Venne fought an excellent match while still recovering from illness. The match was even, but it's hard to keep up the pace when you're half fit, so the match unfortunately went to Ukraine. An excellent race experience for Venne, however. Also a sad opening loss for Alina, but all the same a backpack of valuable experience to take home.
In addition to the results, the competition trip also left a good taste in my mouth. Eddy and Fatima, who were the coaches, got the team in an excellent mood and the team spirit was high. All Finns were there as one group and helped and encouraged each other. Great!
Rauma Open 2019 matches were organized on Saturday 13.4. Takekwondo players traveled with a small team, but each of them had several matches and suitably tough opponents. The trip was successful both in terms of the number of medals and the experience gained.
Plum worked hard as usual in two weight classes, in both of which he advanced to the finals with clear figures. The final of the -59 kg category was held first and Plum dominated the match for two sets. Unfortunately, the long day showed in the legs and I ran out of gas in the last race and I saw a silver medal around my neck. After a break in one match, a club friend who weighed -63 kilos stepped up Lauri, who had cleared his way to the final with a really hard work victory in the semi-final match. The boys again served fast and steady twisting. The final result is gold for Plum with a score of 17-11. Bard competed in the men's -74 kilos and also qualified for the final with a certain number of shots. The opponent, known from the past and known to be challenging, was still ahead this time and also brought home silver for Bardia.
Great race from all three. Congratulations on the medals!
The EC competitions of business series were organized in Turkey on April 2-4. and right after one day in between, the first Beach EC competitions were contested at the same place. The level of the competitions was very tough, but so was the Finnish team. Three bronze medals came from the EC competitions, one of which was hung around Christian's neck after excellent performances in the group series together with Budokwa's Olli Siltanen and Frans Salme. Other bronzes were taken by the women's O30 group Niina Virtala (Manse), Johanna Nukari (EHT) and Triin Saviauk (Budokwai) and Niina Virtala (Manse) individually. The medal haul was completed by the men's group bronze from the beach games. Congratulations to the medalists!
Taekwondo athletes had a strong representation in the team, when in addition to Christian, Ville, Plum, Eero, Aino, Alex, Sofia, Bella, Vickan, Laura (beach) and Elina (beach) won medals. Everyone showed their claws on the competition mats, and if anything, the competition served as a good barometer for what's to come. It's amazing to see so many athletes from competition groups at such a hard level. Keep up the determined work!
Villen's Travel Report
Lopullinen sijoitus jaettu 5. sija.
Elina competed only in the Beach EC competitions, in the Team Female U30 series, with Nea Säynäjoki from Keumgang in Tampere and Linda Räkköläinen from Hipko. The group was in good shape, but the Italian trio they faced in the first round still took the win. Women's group ranking shared 5th place.
Laura also only competed in the Beach EC competitions. Laura had bad luck on the trip when she injured her leg during training the night before the competition day. Plagued by injury, Laura narrowly lost to Spain in the first round.
Plum and Eero competed in the Under 17 boys group series with Joonas Järvenpää of Pori Taekwondo. This was also Eero's value competition debut. The performances were good, but still not enough for the further rounds. Plum also competed in the under-17 doubles series with Espoo Hwarang Team's Mia Knutsson. Even in the doubles series, the level was so high that there was no further place. Eero also competed in the Beach EC competitions in the individual series, beating Russia nicely in the first round. In the second round, there was a loss to Spain and the final ranking was shared 5th place.
The TU cadets all made a great value competition debut at the EC competitions. 11 of the 22 contestants in Aino's series made it to the semi-final round, and despite the hard bets, Aino came in 14th place, just outside the semi-finals. Alex started directly from the second round, with the number of competitors being 19. The qualifying was tight, with only 8 competitors making it to the finals. Alex's performances were not quite enough until the final round. Bella, Vickan and Sofia also did good performances without being disturbed by the competition organizer's initial glare. The young contestants still didn't quite manage to match their older ones, and the next place was still unattainable this time. The performances of all cadets were good and the setting was challenging, with many competitors in the cadet series being older and stronger. We can expect strong results from the future, as our competitors gain more experience!"
