The PM competitions took place on January 30, 2016 in Fredericia, Denmark. Taekwondo athletes brought home 4 gold and 2 silver medals.
Eddie Quinones competed in the cadet boys' -57 kg category. Eddie was the only cadet boy of the Finnish team who won 3 matches. Finally, a gold medal was hung around the neck.
Emilia Lahti took only one match, which she won with a point difference of 13-0 at the end of the second set. Bringing gold from the cadet girls' -47 kg category.
Aleksi Väyrynen competed in the junior boys' -51 kg category. He won his first match sovereignly, but an old metatarsal problem prevented him from playing in the finals, so he brought home silver.
Tuikku Holopainen took two matches in the cadet girls' -44 kg series. In the final, she faced Elisa Toivonen and lost with two strong warnings 0-1. So you're taking silver with you on the way home.
Milla Väyrynen moved from cadets to juniors and in the -49 kg category the resistance was tough. The Dane who won the series was stronger, older and more experienced. That way, there was only experience left in the amount of one lost match.
In the movement series, Essi Labart and Christian Kamphuis took gold in the pairs series, and Christian did another hard performance by taking gold in the men's individual series in a small fever. In the individual series, Essi was 6th, being the best Finn in her own series. Essi also competed in the group series, where he finished fourth.
Big congratulations to the whole team on behalf of the coaching staff!

All the results of the competitions can be found http://www.ma-regonline.com/tournaments/747/EUROPEAN-QUALIFICATION-TOURNAMENT-FOR-RIO-2016-OLYMPIC-GAMES
Even though Teemu, Jenna and Taekwondo athletes 2011 did not get competition places this time, they want to thank everyone who supported and encouraged Teemu and Jenna. Both of our athletes especially thank their supporters Loan list.

There are thousands of athletes in Finland who sacrifice everything every day to achieve their biggest dream: the Olympic dream. One such athlete is Jenna Partanen, a taekwondo athlete supported by Lainasto.
Eighty thousand people cheer when the athletes step onto the turf of the legendary Maracanã. The audience of billions has settled down on their couches, ready to celebrate the start of the two-week season. The Rio Olympics are about to start.
Spectators only see the happy surface of the athletes. They see that all the athletes are excited to be a part of the world's finest sporting competition. However, they don't know how much all the athletes have fought to even be a part of the Olympic dream.
An opportunity to make a dream come true
These times Jenna Partanen one's own struggle is concretized into a suspense drama that measures the last physical and psychological resources. The last chance to claim an Olympic place is at hand.
Taekwondo's last competition spots, participation rights to pursue your own dreams, will be awarded at the European Olympic qualifying competition in Istanbul on January 16-17, 2016. The best two in each weight class get tickets to the Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
The competition is tough and merciless, but Jenna Partanen, competing in the under-67-kilogram weight class, is one of those athletes who has an excellent chance of beating all her competitors and grabbing a place at the Olympics. This is ensured by the typical traits of a successful athlete: talent, hard work, dedication and passion.
However, the recipe for a successful athlete also includes more than perfect traits. The training must be top class and the athlete must make sacrifices.
Partanen is supported by a talented duo
An athlete can determine the direction of his own career development, but coaching determines the pace. Competent coaching gives the athlete the conditions to realize his full potential for success.
Partanen, who represents the Taekwondo athletes 2011 club, is surrounded by a competent duo whose task is to ensure that no stone is left unturned and that development proceeds at the desired pace.
Partanen's personal trainer has been cooked in many broths, Teemu Heino, himself an Olympic athlete preparing for the Olympic qualification in Istanbul. The second coach is Jesus Ramal, Olympic coach of the Finnish Taekwondo Association, who has described Parta as Finland's most promising young taekwondo player. It was Ramal's trust in Partanen's abilities that led to Partanen's full-time life as a top athlete following Ramal's teachings in the fall.
Moving into the unknown
When autumn came, Partanen moved to Madrid to train full-time in Ramal's teachings. The step was not only athletically significant, but also a change measuring mental strength. A real sacrifice. The familiar environment changed to a new and unknown one.
"In addition to moving to train as a top athlete in a foreign country, where all communication takes place in a foreign language, I also moved away from home to live on my own. My first own home is abroad in a completely new environment", reveals Partanen.
Partanen lives in the quiet area of San Sebastian de los Reyes, twenty kilometers from the center of Madrid. While most tourists stay in the center of Madrid, English language skills also stay there. In addition to everyday business, this has also been seen in training.
"In the beginning, it was a bit different to do the exercises, when the language caused difficulties. I didn't always understand what to do. Fortunately, Jesus continued to explain and show by holding hands. Things have gone really well with Jesus."
Life in a foreign environment has been busy. Camp and competition trips have taken Parta all over Europe, and the suitcases haven't had time to be packed for long. Despite everything, the investment has made Partase an even stronger athlete and person.
"I think that the benefit of this training trip to Spain will be seen in my life many times over, even years from now. I've learned a lot about the sport I love, from training, and as a bonus, I've become able to adapt to my own and my language skills. It's great that I get to make my dream come true - and I can say that I've done everything I can for this dream," Partanen beams.
The journey is at an important stage
Daily struggle to develop body and psyche. The Olympic athlete has seen many rough days along his journey. Blood, sweat, tears. All the clichés that have become reality as experienced by the athlete.
Even so, the true dream of an Olympic athlete will only come true when the Olympic flame is lit on August 5, 2016.
Then it will also be seen whether Jenna will participate as an Olympic athlete in the Rio de Janeiro Olympics. The decisive stage on the journey is on January 16, 2016 in Istanbul, when Jenna competes in the European Olympic qualifiers.
Partanen and his coach leave for Istanbul excited and confident.
"I'm looking forward to the Olympic qualifiers in Istanbul. After all, this is the peak moment of my career so far. Technically, I'm at my best right now. According to Jesus, my development has been incredibly fast, so he is very satisfied with that," says Partanen.
Taekwondo athletes 2011 and Jenna's supporter Lainasto Oy wish Jenna luck for the qualifiers! Remember to enjoy the journey towards your Olympic dream, remembering that hard work and sacrifice will pay off in the end!
Lainasto Oy is a Finnish financial company that has been offering financial solutions for everyday challenges and the pursuit of dreams since 2011.
The spring season starts fast
Taekwondo athletes' training is still on break for Epiphany week, but on Monday 11.1. training will start again as usual. There have been small changes in the practice times, which you can check from here. Tapiola's shifts will also continue with the same schedules as in the fall. Kalajärvi the spring course starts on Thursday 21.1.
The gym elves knew how to tell that the most enthusiastic trainers couldn't bear to stay away from the taekwondo mats during the Christmas holidays. A group of young competitors of Taekwondo athletes camped in Madrid in a tough company. You can read about their struggles from here. The ceiling height of the own hall was also tested on 27.12. at the organized skill and jump kick camp. The camp was attended by belt ranks from 10th cup to 4th dan and the age range was 7-45 years. Still, despite the starting level, everyone learned a lot of new ways to use their body versatilely.
At the same time, Jenna Partanen and Teemu Heino have finished their preparations for the European Olympic qualifiers, which will be held on January 16-17. in Istanbul, Turkey. Go read Teemu's thoughts from here and liking Jenna's athlete page here! Sampo Pajulampi and Juho Ranta will also go on the trip as support troops. Juho works as the team's physiotherapist. Our club is therefore quite strongly represented at the most important taekwondo event in Europe at the beginning of the year. We will hear more about this trip later!
TU athletes at camp in Madrid
The days between Christmas were spent by Emmi, Aino, Eddie, Sara and Luca in training. There was also Jenna Partanen, who is preparing for the Olympic qualifiers, and Toni Lahtinen, who trains regularly at our club's gym, but represents Loviisa. Jesus Ramal organized an international training camp with participants from California and Brazil. A gym competition was also organized at the event, where especially Eddie's 7 match wins attracted attention. Other athletes also received good feedback about their skills.
A new perspective on training was brought by Eva Calvo's coach father XIxo, who emphasized the role of creativity in training. In other exercises, the focus was on getting around the defense of the front foot and on the other hand, protection and defense.

Taekwondo athletes thank you for the past year
Even the hardest trainers need a rest now and then, and Christmas is perfect for this purpose. Right after the Christmas holidays, however, you can train again in the form of a training camp in the middle of the day. You can read a more detailed news about this from here. Some of our athletes will go to Madrid right after Christmas for the traditional winter camp of Jesus Ramal and Suvi Mikkonen. A more detailed report on their trip is expected later.
Thank you to all enthusiasts and supporters for the past year! Without your contribution, the rise to Finland's largest taekwondo club with a great finish in 2015 would not have been possible.
Hard work and careful work in the belt tests
In the last week of the autumn season, belt values were increased for all groups. The work was started on Tuesday by the 7-14-year-old junnu enthusiasts who started their hobby in the fall. The examiner and one of the group's coaches, Pauli Raivio, was very satisfied with the group's performance and attitude in the exam. Even the techniques and skills that were more difficult than the required level went well, and 19 new yellow belt owners deservedly walked away from the belt exam. The evening continued with the test for green ribbons and after that with the test for even higher belt values. The upper ones in particular showed great stretching in a versatile test, which, in addition to the techniques of the belt values, tested the ability to adapt to new types of training situations and applications of techniques. In general, Paul had a very positive impression of the evening. On Wednesday, Jenna Aalto took the test for 3-6 year olds, and Jenna also reported on the test in a positive tone. The belt competition culminated on Thursday in the adult test held by Teemu and Juho, where the upper belts went without sparing their speed. There was also good feedback from these tests, although a little accuracy was missed in terms of the movement sequences. The same can be signed for trains as well. In the spring, however, the opportunity to train movement sets increases rapidly, as a new group of hobbyists starts as early as January on Wednesday evenings. Taekwondo athletes recommend this group to all enthusiasts.
On behalf of the club, congratulations to those who completed the new belt rank!
