New poom values

Most of the young people who have just started their vacation certainly spent the hot summer Sunday as relaxed as possible. However, this was not part of the plans of Eddie, Sara, Plum and Luca, who sweated in front of the others in the five-hour poom test. Of these, the last mentioned earned the 1st poom and the others already grabbed the second poom degree. Eddie just turned 15, of course we have to talk about the Danes.

Petteri and Pauli had planned some kind of challenges for the experimenters, but these were accepted with determined self-confidence. The group's attitude and cheer remained from start to finish, even though the clock may have felt like it was passing painfully slowly. It was also a pleasure to notice how the test subjects performed in the test specifically as a group.

Big congratulations to the test takers! The belt values have been earned and now you can rest for a while with a clear conscience. :)

Go see more snapshots from the test:

Taekwondo athletes indoor competition 9.6.

Indoor league ends for the spring

On Saturday 9.6. the third and last competition of the indoor league of Taekwondo athletes will be held. After the competition, the best boy, girl, man and woman of the season will be awarded with a product prize offered by Pro Dobok Finland. The awardees are selected by comparing the points scored, the number of matches played, the number of wins and the board of trustees' evaluations of the participants. Even if you haven't participated in previous competitions, it's worth participating. The event serves, for example, as an excellent preparation for the World Championship.

You don't have to register separately for indoor competitions, it's enough to arrive on Saturday in good time and inform the counter of your name, match series and weight. The price of indoor competitions is €10. There is also a cafe where you can buy refreshments and snacks in cash.

All series start at the same time, so that on one mat there are matches of beginners and Juniors and on the other, matches of ranking series players. Electric armor and helmets are used on both courts, but if the competitor is missing electric socks, points can also be given manually.

If you want to come along to practice acting as a judge or otherwise as an administrator, please contact us!

The belt exams in May wrap up the spring season

Congratulations to those who completed the new belt rank

The belt exams in May have traditionally been the biggest of the year for Taekwondo athletes, and this year didn't disappoint either. The new belt rank was completed by 83 trainees ranging from the 10th KUP tiger mark to the 1st KUP black ribbon. Even next Sunday, we can get excited about the performance of four poom experiments.

Thank you again to all who participated in the belt exams and to the coaches! This is a good place to start summer training. Remember to train hard in the summer as well, because already in August is the next chance to increase your belt value.

Success from the Korso Games with a lap shop

The business league team's spring season ended wonderfully in Korso

Korso's business series competition packages the spring competitions of the business series league. The team of taekwondo athletes has reaped success in one competition after another, and the trend continued even now. I promise you good luck with the SC championships in mind! Coach Heikki reports on the competitions:

"Korso's business series competitions went like a model from TU! The ten-member strike team brought a total of seven medals from the Games. In the cadet girls, Sofia Sarala won the silver medal and Sara Quinones the bronze. It is worth mentioning that there were three contestants from TU among the five finalists: Sofia, Sara and Aino Kortelainen. In the cadet boys, Alex Jürgens also claimed the silver medal with good performances.

In junior girls, Tara Tuokko, who recently moved to the ranks of TU, achieved a silver medal in her series, even though a small leg problem hindered her kicking a little.

Aino Kortelainen was replaced to "luck" Mia Knutsson to the U17 group and as a result Sara, Aino and Pori's Helmi Riuttala won a gold medal. TU's trio Bella Buuri, Victoria Hentunen and Sofia Sarala also claimed a silver medal in the same series. Also among the medalists of the U30 group, TU colors were found, when Elina Tikkanen (TU11), Linda Räkköläinen (HIPKO) and Nea Säynäjoki (Tampere Keumgang) won gold with excellent performances.

In the amateur series, Marita Jaakkola (Women in red and black) and Maija Mansikkala (Women in blue) did solid performances, but narrowly missed out on medals."

Emmi as the winning chicken in Ikaalis

Emmi found an excellent competitive spirit in Ikaalis

The Ikaali competition was the last match event before the WC competitions in July. The taekwondo athletes were on the move with an exceptionally small team, when there was only Emmi with her coach Mari in the medal hunt. Most of the rest of the team was camping in Konala at the same time.

Emmi's series was one of the biggest league series of the competition, so no free medals were given out. However, Emmi didn't leave much to worry about when she scored 20-3 in the first match and 17-3 in the next. The final was already more even, but Emmi left the mat as the winner! It is very good to continue towards the WC.

Summer practice times 28.5. from

We also practice in the summer

Summer is the best time to train, when the pressure from school and work eases. The gym for taekwondo athletes is also open in the summer, albeit with a slightly lighter calendar. In July, we will be completely closed for a few weeks and the instructors will be airing out in the summer pastures.

  • All groups have one less basic practice than in the spring season. Instead, everyone over the age of 12 is offered hill training as usual on Malminkartano's Jätemäki. The training is intense.
  • Exercise groups have been combined by age group. In the summer, training is focused on repetitions and features, so that everyone keeps up and still gets challenges that suit them.
  • Summer break is celebrated 9.7.-31.7. Two extra camps will be organized over the summer for everyone who has a valid training contract. One before the summer break and one after the break.
  • The training amounts of the competition groups remain unchanged. Morning workouts are arranged separately before the end of school. Amateur competitors join the Wednesday practice, which is designed to suit everyone. Those who have been in the children's match group participate in the training of the competition group.
