The day's performances gave reason to smile
In the match competitions in Porvoo, all the emotions that belong to a good sports event were once again felt. The competition day of the taekwondo athletes included joy, excitement, fun, solidarity and of course some disappointments. However, when the team left the hall, accompanied by the last TU shouts, there was really reason to smile. A great start to the autumn season!
A few athletes opened up their own thoughts about the day's feelings:
Bardia (Men -80kg, 1st)
"I got energy from the encouragement and the team and the coaches were the best! I remembered everything from the day!"
Iines (Cadets, -37kg, 1st)
"For some reason, sometimes it didn't even feel like I was at the Games. What I remembered from the day was the tight deciding point in the semi-final overtime and the fact that I managed to keep the opponents far away with my own kicking distance."
Eddie (Juniors, -68kg, 1st)
"A good day. I especially remembered the last-minute backspin to the head, which decided the victory in the semi-final."
Chahrazed (Juniors, -68kg, 1st)
"I am satisfied with my own performance, but it was sad for my sister to lose in the final. What I remembered about the day was the team's spirit and encouragement."
Plum (Cadets -57kg, 1st)
"Nice feeling. I remembered my own injury from the day" (note the victory despite that!)
Sara (Cadets -59kg, 3rd)
"I had a good feeling about the day. I am satisfied with how Ottel played against a very tough opponent. What I remembered about the day was the team's encouragement."
Milay (E1 juniors -26kg, 2nd)
"I had a good feeling from the first games. It wasn't very exciting."
Markus (D2 juniors -30kg)
"I had a good feeling even though my own kick accidentally hit the opponent's head. What I remembered about the day was the fun and the fact that it was only a little stressful."
Aino (Cadets -37kg, 2nd)
"The day left a panda-like feeling (a kick hit the eye). What I remembered was that the condition held up really well."
Jenny (Cadets -33kg and -37kg, 3. 3.)
"I had a really good feeling. What I remembered from the day was that I had good matches and at first I wouldn't have believed that I could survive the whole match so well against a really tough Russian."
Max (Promise of the Future)
"The match looks good. Maybe I wouldn't go myself yet, but soon I will!"
Special mention goes to Emilia Lahti and Abdelhak Lemzouri, who shared justice in the role of judge. Abdelhak, who has been rehabilitated as an IR judge, made his debut on the Finnish competition mats, and Emmi gave her first judge appearances and, looking from the sidelines, quite a model!
Thanks to the whole team for a great day! Let's continue the determined work in the gym. :)
