The training times of the summer season start on June 7.

The summer practice times are published on the practice times page>>

We practice throughout the summer, except for the two middle weeks of July, July 12-25, when we take a summer break.

In the summer, there are plenty of training opportunities for all age groups, no matter what your goals are in terms of development. Summer is e.g. what a great time to practice your skills or try out what competitive training in racing teams feels like.

Points to note about summer training:

  • Age and level groups have been combined a bit, because in the summer group sizes have traditionally been a little smaller. In addition, the training topics are designed so that there are challenges of a suitable level for all belt values.
  • There are two feature exercises for the competition teams during the day when schools are on vacation. We provide more detailed instructions for athletes. In addition, Fridays are reserved for competition teams' independent training and extra training.
  • Fitness circuit, core, stretching and hill training make the long-awaited return to the training offer
  • For those over 13 years of age, there is also an amateur match and an amateur movement series workout. The popular kick workout can also be found again on Sunday.
  • For children's groups, there are outdoor workouts on Thursdays in addition to the basic workouts. If you still want to increase the amount of training, you should ask about the possibilities of participating in the training of the racing group.
  • The advanced 10-15 pass over the summer to train in the 10-12 and 13-15 age groups.
  • In the summer, there is plenty of room in the calendar for private lessons or small group lessons. Book yours right away!

Saturday 8.5.

On Saturday, Suvi Mikkonen competed for the Finns. In the opening match, he faced 112 Dutchman Bodine Schoenmakers (opponent information in taekwondo data>>). Suvi won the match 15-11.

In the second round, Suvi beat experienced Belgian Rahellah Aseman! The fourth time he said it. Next came a tough Pole who was much stronger.

Yle reports: https://yle.fi/urheilu/3-11922634
Also read the advance story about Suvi's qualifying from YLE>>

Saturday Charts>>

In summary from Saturday, Suvi's wonderful performances can be stated. Even though there were no points in the last match, knocking down Aseman was a tough feat. 3 previous attempts did not produce results, but in the most important place the performance was downright terrible.

Friday 7.5.

Jenna's match number was 211. The opponent was the experienced Cecilia Castro-Burgos from Spain, who has e.g. three EC medals. Castro-Burgos was stronger with 35-5 points.

Among other Finns, Niko Saarinen competed in the men's under 58 kg category on Friday. In the match, he defeated Sevede Naghibzadeh, who fought with 108 refugee status. Next in the match was the French 220 Cyrian Ravet, to whom Niko lost 30-10.

Friday Charts>>

Friday's results>>

In summary from Friday, of course, it can be stated that the Finns did not reach the Olympic place.

Now we've picked up speed through the operating room and we'll look at things further after that."

8 Olympic places were divided between 8 countries. Adriana Cerezo's performance is especially worth highlighting on Friday. Only 17 years old, the Spaniard was completely superior and took his opponents like those famous liter measures, despite being the youngest participant of the entire tournament. He is coached by Jesus Ramal, who is also responsible for Suvi Mikkonen's coaching.

An interesting piece of information is related to Omar Salim, representing Hungary. He will be only the second 2nd generation Olympic athlete in taekwondo. His coach father Gergerly Salim won the under 50 kg category in the colors of Denmark in Barcelona, where taekwondo was the demonstration sport. Spain's Jesus Tortosa competed in Seoul 1988 and his son Jesus Tortosa in Rio.

Jenna and Matti to the Olympic and Paralympic qualifications

The Olympic qualification is held in Sofia, Bulgaria. The qualifiers were moved once, but after the successful European Championships held in the same place, the places in Tokyo can be divided. Health and safety measures are strict during the tournament. The entire competition takes place in a bubble built inside a hotel. In addition, the match event itself is still a bubble within a bubble. In the Olympic qualification, the best two in the series get the race ticket, and in the Paralympic qualification, the winner of the entire series. In both competition formats, qualifying is conducted with a merciless direct cup diagram.

In addition to the TU11 representatives, Turku's Niko Saarinen in the men's under 58 kg category and Madrid-based Suvi Mikkonen in the women's under 57 kg category will participate in the qualification from Finland.

Jenna Partanen, taekwondo, women under 67 kilos, Match day Friday 7.5.

Jenna's set is very curly. There are twenty people who can realistically claim a race ticket. The only standout early favorite is the series' number one in Europe, France's Magda Wiet-Hen. Jenna took on Wiet-Henin at the 2019 Universiade, bending just fine.

However, Jenna's finishing has gone well and Jenna goes to the tournament in the role of a challenger, but with confidence.

Matti Sairanen, para-taekwondo, men under 61 kilos, combined disability category K44-K43, Match day Sunday 9.5.

Matti is ranked number one in the series in his own disability category K44. The athletes coming from the combined series K43 are significantly more seriously injured, so the starting situation is good. However, the competition format does not allow for bad luck or mistakes. The strongest resistance in the forehand is Azerbaijan's Imamaddin Khalilov.
